The 4th Annual Walk4McKenna!
Date: Saturday, September 19, 2020
Time: 8:00 am
Place: On the Eye Street Esplanade at Gonzaga College High School
As of July 13 we are planning for an “in-person” walk with appropriate social distancing and all precautions for a safe gathering. However, we will make a final decision about the “in-person vs. virtual” event no later than August 17.
Please join us for the 4th Annual Walk4McKenna. This event raises needed funds to support the upcoming Hypothermia / Transition Program (link to the program page), where men spend each night at the Center (November 1 to April 1). Each year about 2/3 of the men in the program reach a positive outcome (finding a job, a place to live, reconnecting with family or other appropriate step toward ending his experience of homelessness).
The Walk4McKenna is a 5K (3.25 mile) walk along many of the same streets that Fr. Horace McKenna, SJ walked each day as he greeted and cared for his “flock.”
Registration opens at 8:00 am, and the walk will step off about 8:40 am. Upon completion of the walk there will be a continental breakfast (fruit, bagels, juice and coffee) for all.
This year we are adding a “Chinese Raffle.” There will be ten to fifteen items (tickets to The Capitol Steps and “Dessert of the Month” have already been committed). We are looking for unique and special “experiential” items for the raffle. (If you have access to tickets to the Washington Nationals or performances at the Kennedy Center, Arena Stage or other venues, that you are willing to donate, please contact Ned Hogan at email@example.com. Or if you have an idea for a great raffle item, please contact Ned.)
Registration fee is $35.00 per person, and we will offer a souvenir t-shirt, the continental breakfast and one ticket for the raffle. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased on-site for $5.00 for 10 tickets.
