Meeting Needs … Reclaiming Lives

The Father McKenna Center is an independent 501(c)3 in the Ignatian Catholic tradition located in Washington, D.C.  We serve men struggling with homelessness and families facing food insecurity. We provide a structured program supporting our mission of Meeting Needs … Reclaiming Lives. We depend on community support. If you are able to help you can pray for us, volunteer with us, or donate to support our work.

The Father McKenna Center offers :

  • Walk-in Services M-F from 7:30 am to 11:00 am
  • Breakfast M-F from 7:30 am to 8:45 am
  • Lunch M-F from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm
  • Food Pantry M, Tu, Th, F from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm for low-income households in DC.

Our Programs

The mission of The Father McKenna Center is to care for families struggling with food insecurity and men experiencing homelessness by providing food, shelter, clothing and services to support their journey towards stability and productivity.

The McKenna Academy

The McKenna Academy is a program of The Father McKenna Center, which provides life skills-based classes to support men who seek to take the next step on their journey to end the cycle of homelessness

Day Program

Supporting men on their journey through homelessness, with targeted case management and provision of basic human services.

Hypothermia Program

A unique, application-based experience that provides shelter during the hypothermia months along with intensive case management and community support.

Food Pantry

Offering healthy supplemental groceries in a welcoming environment to help address food insecurity for individuals and families residing in D.C

Immersion Service Learning Program

Exposing young women and men to the issues of homelessness and poverty, challenging them through service, reflection, and transformative education.
