housing and reclaim their lives.

Volunteers Needed

We’re looking for volunteers for the McKenna Academy, a new program of The Father McKenna Center. Please contact our Volunteer Manager, Emily Dold, if you would like to volunteer or to learn more.

We provide men training for life skills

The Academy is a six-month, five-day-a-week program, which provides case management support, educational assistance and job placement resources. We provide men training for life skills including healthy living and financial literacy.

The Academy also offers support for those struggling with addiction or who were recently incarcerated. Our program helps men learn and form the skills and habits that lead to self-sufficiency, independent living and productive lives.

Transportation is provided from the Father McKenna Center located at 900 North Capitol Street, on the campus of Gonzaga College High School. Pick up from area shelters occurs from 7:15 am to 7:45 am, with return transportation between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm. We provide a hearty house-prepared breakfast and lunch, along with shower service and the opportunity for laundry.

Instructors and course facilitators include the staff of the Father McKenna Center as well as experienced professionals and providers who volunteer at the Center. Ongoing mentoring and peer support is also provided.

Our only requirement is that a candidate be ready to take the next step on his journey to a better life and be fully committed to the program and its goals. The Father McKenna Center and Academy stand ready to support each man who seeks to reclaim his life.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates receive a certificate of completion and a reference from The Father McKenna Academy to be used with organizations that provide housing placement.
